Abstract

", "\nABSTRACT\nThis paper introduces the psychological on‐call service (Plantão Psicológico), a modality of psychological counselling developed at the University of São Paulo, and proposes an initial dialogue with single‐session therapy (SST). Originating in the late 1960s within a public university context, the psychological on‐call service integrates professional training, community care and research, offering immediate psychological availability in moments of urgency. Rather than being organised around diagnosis, protocol or long‐term treatment, Plantão Psicológico is grounded in attentive presence, dialogical listening and the clarification of the client's lived demand as it emerges in the encounter. Drawing on an existential‐phenomenological perspective, this paper presents the historical development, ethical foundations and current functioning of the service, including descriptive data and brief clinical vignettes. The SST is outlined as a point of dialogue, highlighting shared sensitivities to urgency, accessibility and client protagonism, while also acknowledging differences in institutional context, theoretical orientation and clinical aims. The paper does not seek to provide a comprehensive review of SST developments, but rather to make visible a Brazilian clinical tradition that has remained largely inaccessible to English‐speaking audiences and to invite further international exchange.\n"]
