", "\nABSTRACT\nGender differences feature often in autobiographical reminiscing studies, but a recent meta‐analysis challenged the long‐held supposition that mothers elaborate differently with girls than boys in early childhood. This brief review considers recent developments in gender and autobiographical memory, including efforts to understand the role of context, expectations, and gender‐linked traits. It then draws parallels between the theoretical framework of autobiographical memory and research on cultural evolution of emotion. In doing so, I argue that autobiographical memory is best understood using Robyn Fivush's conceptualization of it as a socially and culturally embedded agglomeration of multiple cognitive capacities and life experiences. Gender and emotion, as similarly embedded, often share overlapping causes of variance.\n"]
