", "\nABSTRACT\nThere are disproportionately high rates of birth parents receiving statutory child protection services that suffer from post‐traumatic stress, with an estimated prevalence of 23% meeting criteria for PTSD. Numerous studies have identified that parental post‐traumatic stress can increase child abuse potential and have a significant impact on parenting and child outcomes. The current research aimed to, firstly, understand the biographical narratives of trauma‐exposed mothers receiving child protection counselling by presenting extracts of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) transcripts. The extracts were presented based on overarching concepts experienced by the participants, including coercive control, physical assault, adult sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, self‐identity and social support. Quantitative analysis of pre‐ and post‐intervention outcomes was also undertaken using the PCL‐5, CORE‐OM and SCORE‐15. Results indicate reliable and clinically significant change in post‐traumatic stress symptoms, psychological distress and family functioning. Limitations, future considerations and clinical implications are discussed.\n"]
