", "\nABSTRACT\nA monitoring‐based strategy for repairing ruptured institutional trust is motivated and defended, bringing together insights about both interpersonal and institutional trust breakdown. The strategy pursued identifies and exploits important differences between interpersonal and institutional trust relations, insofar as monitoring in each case mitigates against the kind of risks that by trusting one makes oneself vulnerable. Once the relevant differences are appreciated, certain kinds of monitoring are shown to have special promise in the case of repairing institutional trust following institutional abuses of power. Particular strategies are then outlined and compared favourably to alternatives.\n"]
