", "\nIn June 2023, the Laje River, located in the traditional territory of the Wari’ Indigenous people in Rondônia, Brazil, was declared a legal entity, an earth being, with rights, following the co‐ordinated action of an indigenous councillor and non‐indigenous activists. This made the Laje the first river in Brazilian Amazonia to attain such a legal status. In this article, I explore the different conceptions of earth being that characterize, on one hand, the indigenous perspective, and, on the other, the perspective of the non‐indigenous actors involved in the legislative process. Similar cases in South America and New Zealand are compared, seeking a broader understanding of the equivocations that arise in the encounter between societies that accept instability and the possibility of an alternation between ontologies as positive factors and those societies more oriented towards dogmatism and a unity of perspectives.\n\nRésumé\nEn juin 2023, la rivière Laje, située sur le territoire traditionnel du peuple autochtone des Wari dans l’État de Rondônia, au Brésil, a été déclarée entité légale, être de la terre nanti de droits, à la suite d'une action coordonnée menée par un élu local autochtone et des activistes non autochtones. Elle est ainsi devenue le premier cours d'eau d'Amazonie brésilienne à obtenir ce statut juridique. Dans le présent article, l'autrice explore les différentes conceptions de l’être de la terre qui caractérisent, d'une part, le point de vue autochtone et, d'autre part, celui des acteurs non autochtones intervenant dans le processus législatif. Elle compare des cas similaires en Amérique du Sud et en Nouvelle‐Zélande et cherche à comprendre, plus largement, les équivoques qui naissent de la rencontre entre, d'un côté, des sociétés qui acceptent comme des facteurs positifs l'instabilité et la possibilité d'alternance entre des ontologies et, de l'autre, des sociétés davantage orientées vers le dogmatisme et l'unité des points de vue.\n"]
