["Real Estate Economics, EarlyView. ", "\nAbstract\nMany variables involve the modeling of spatial effects, and their dynamics over time. This article presents a linear model in which spatiotemporal random effects are modeled by graph‐Laplacians. A graph‐Laplacian flexibly encodes adjacency in both space and time, in our case not depending on unknown parameters. The graph‐Laplacian can be input for a prior in a Bayesian estimation setup, or used as regularization term in a Ridge regression. A spectral decomposition of the graph‐Laplacian significantly reduces computation time for estimation. As an application, we estimate graph‐Laplacian hedonic pricing and repeat‐sales models on sales prices of Australian residential properties in the period from 1990 to 2024. Bayesian and Ridge regression estimation results are very similar, although the computation time for the Ridge regression is orders of magnitude faster, however at the expense of missing posterior density functions. Our results highlight the advantages of graph‐Laplacians for predicting individual property prices and for producing stable, granular price indexes, also in thin markets."]

["Real Estate Economics, EarlyView. ", "\nAbstract\nThis article estimates foreclosure discounts in Cape Town, South Africa, where, until 2019, foreclosure auctions occurred without reserve prices. Using newly constructed data linking sheriff auction notices to the universe of property transactions, rich property characteristics, and municipal service‐request records, I document large foreclosure discounts that vary by empirical approach. In a cost‐adjusted hedonic framework, properties sold at foreclosure auction transact at a discount of 14.5% relative to comparable non‐foreclosed sales; repeat‐sales estimates yield substantially larger discounts of 30.2%. These estimates bracket the plausible range of the true discount: the hedonic provides a conservative lower bound after netting out buyer‐incurred transaction costs, while the repeat‐sales provides an upper bound that additionally captures time‐varying deterioration not fully observed in cross‐sectional data. The magnitudes documented here are large relative to settings with reserve prices, reflecting an institutional environment where the absence of a reserve price leaves auction outcomes effectively unbounded on the downside. The implications are especially severe in South Africa's recourse mortgage system: foreclosed borrowers who lose their homes at auction may also remain liable for any balance between the sale price and the outstanding mortgage, compounding the household‐level costs of foreclosure. The findings contribute to an understanding of how foreclosure‐price formation operates in a no‐reserve‐price auction environment, and of the implications of that institutional design for realized prices and homeowner outcomes."]

["Health Expectations, Volume 29, Issue 4, August 2026. ", "\nABSTRACT\n\nBackground\nTelehealth can mitigate healthcare access barriers that contribute to persistent rural health inequities. However, a limited understanding of telehealth barriers and preferences hinders the implementation of effective programs in rural communities. We conducted a formative evaluation to identify barriers and facilitators to telehealth adoption in an underserved rural setting.\n\n\nMethods\nWe used a mixed‐methods design including surveys and in‐depth semi‐structured interviews with rural community stakeholders. The survey assessed telehealth utilisation, perceptions, technology access and barriers using Likert‐type scales. Survey data were analysed descriptively, and interview data were examined thematically across the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) constructs.\n\n\nFindings\nSurvey respondents (n = 59) were primarily female (73.2%), and White (73.2%), with a mean age of 61 years. Over half (51.8%) reported annual incomes below $20,000, and 18.6% lacked home internet access. While 59.3% had heard of telehealth, only 42.4% had used it. Among users, 61.9% reported satisfaction, and 71.4% agreed or strongly agreed that communication with providers was adequate. Key barriers included limited internet connectivity (72.8%), technology challenges (66.6%) and lack of knowledge about accessing telehealth (62.5%). Interview participants (n = 8) emphasised that trust and comfort with providers were central to acceptance and highlighted telehealth's convenience in reducing transportation barriers.\n\n\nConclusion\nIn this study population, telehealth was generally acceptable, with trust and comfort with the provider driving acceptance. Barriers were primarily related to connectivity, infrastructure and digital literacy. Consistent with larger studies, these findings support investments in broadband access, digital literacy, technical support and building patient confidence in virtual care.\n\n\nPatient or Public Contribution\nMembers of the public were involved in the design, recruitment and dissemination phases of this study. We partnered with local community organisations serving rural populations to inform recruitment strategies and to distribute surveys to community members with lived experience of healthcare access barriers. Community stakeholders also participated directly in the research through survey completion and in‐depth interviews, providing critical insights into telehealth use, barriers and preferences. While the public was not involved in the initial study design or data analysis, their perspectives shaped the interpretation of findings, particularly regarding trust, technology use and access challenges. To support dissemination and ensure accessibility of results, we developed a one‐page summary of findings that was shared with participating community partner sites for distribution back to the communities involved.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\n\nBackground\nBuilding capacity through training and education is recommended to support meaningful engagement of patient partners in health research. The Patient and Community Engagement Research (PaCER) programme is a 12‐month initiative that enables patients and community members to co‐design and conduct qualitative health research projects. Learners are sponsored by clinician researchers, community organisations, and/or jurisdictional health organisations. This study aimed to assess the experiences and impact of the PaCER programme on: (1) past learners' personal development and engagement in health research; and (2) sponsors' research programmes.\n\n\nMethods\nWe conducted a qualitative impact evaluation involving past learners (alumni) and sponsors of the PaCER programme from 2019 to 2024. A purposive sampling strategy was used, whereby selected alumni and sponsors from the 2019–2024 cohorts were invited to participate in an online semi‐structured interview. Sponsors and alumni with diverse characteristics, including variation in age, ethnicity, educational attainment, and geographic location were invited. The interview guide included questions on the experiences in the PaCER programme, post‐programme research activities, and perceptions of the programme's impact. Data were analysed using a reflexive thematic analysis approach.\n\n\nResults\nEighteen participants (12 PaCER alumni and 6 sponsors) were interviewed, and four main themes were identified: (1) seeing the value of the training programme; (2) Diverse people and groups working together; (3) Learner readiness and capacity; (4) Academic opportunities for learners and career growth. Alumni described significant personal impact, empowerment, academic contributions, and increased access to meaningful patient partner opportunities. Alumni reported co‐authoring publications and presenting their work at academic conferences and to various stakeholders, including health system leadership. Many alumni had no prior experience with qualitative participatory research, and participation in the programme supported the development of these research skills. Sponsors also noted impacts on their research programmes, such as securing additional funding informed by PaCER project findings.\n\n\nConclusion\nThe findings demonstrate that structured, experiential training for patients and community members supports meaningful engagement in health research, contributes to sustained capacity development, and positively influences the patient‐oriented research landscape.\n\n\nPatient or Public Contribution\nPatient partners were involved in the design and conduct of the study (data collection), analysis and interpretation of the data, and in the preparation of this manuscript.\n"]

Despite its promise, co‐design practices often fall short, with reports of tokenism, constrained participation and limited influence. These limitations reflect deeper epistemic and relational inequities within mental health systems.\n\n\nDiscussion\nThis commentary argues that the challenges of co‐design can be understood through the lens of epistemic injustice, where certain forms of knowledge, particularly lived experience, are systematically devalued. Drawing on restorative justice principles, the paper proposes a relational and ethical reframing of participation. Restorative approaches—centred on truth‐telling, acknowledgement and repair—offer a means to address the relational harms and power imbalances that undermine meaningful participation. Building on this, the Cycle of Equitable Codesign is introduced as a staged framework comprising: (1) acknowledgement and truth‐telling, (2) restoration and relational repair and (3) co‐design and collective future‐making. The model emphasises the importance of timing, power and relational conditions in shaping equitable participation.\n\n\nConclusion\nRepositioning co‐design within a restorative framework highlights the need to move beyond procedural inclusion towards ethically grounded and relationally just practice. Addressing epistemic injustice is essential for co‐design to achieve its transformative potential in mental health systems.\n\n\nPatient and Public Contribution\nThis commentary is informed by existing literature on co‐design and lived experience participation in mental health. It centres and reflects on the reported experiences of people with lived experience of mental health challenges. Although no direct formal patient or public involvement was undertaken in the development of this paper, it was informed following extensive informal communication with those who have a lived experience of mental health challenges and codesign participation over the prior 18 months.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\nTo examine if one machine‐learning model can consistently elucidate financial vulnerabilities, both over time and across levels of development, this paper applies 13 machine‐learning algorithms to evaluate comparative forecasting performance across several banking crises. The study concurrently contributes to the literature on early warning signals, in general, and modelling frameworks, in particular. Four decades of banking crises are appraised through a vector of 12 leading indicators encompassing real, banking and external sectors, and accounting for a representative sample of 19 emerging markets and developed economies. Through quarterly time series supporting expedient policy responses, findings suggest that bank deposits, capital output ratio, exchange rates, gross domestic product, consumption expenditure, and interest rates represent the most prominent leading indicators. Evaluated by applying root mean squared error, mean absolute error, and receiver operating characteristics with area under curve estimates, random forests exhibit highest predictive strength in minimising the prediction error across a panel format, individual country format and out‐of‐time format, and outperform all models in recursively predicting banking crises out‐of‐sample and out‐of‐time. On aggregate, one algorithm consistently fits most crises, which is advantageous for a global policymaker, however results from the individual country dimension highlight a more nuanced approach to algorithmic selection.\n"]

", "\nAbstract\nHostage diplomacy—detaining foreign nationals for leverage under the pretext of national law—is a growing international security problem. Beyond constituting a violation of international law, hostage diplomacy is challenging to resolve. Target states must deal with aggressive, sovereign perpetrators; handle a fraudulent but plausible legal process; account for numerous stakeholders; and protect their citizens from future harm. How do target‐state negotiators navigate these challenges? This theory‐building article explores perspective‐taking—imagining the world from another's vantage point—as a tool to shape target‐state negotiators' effectiveness in navigating hostage diplomacy. We introduce a model that conceptualizes perspective‐taking on two dimensions. First, negotiators can use multiple‐perspective taking, considering various stakeholders, including interests within their own government, the perpetrator's government, and the hostage's family. Second, across stakeholders, negotiators can take strategic, cultural, emotional, and moral perspectives. We posit that engaging in different forms of perspective‐taking improves target‐state negotiators' ability to identify a domestic win‐set, reach international agreement, and anticipate future crises. Drawing on insights from members of the U.S. hostage‐recovery enterprise, we offer a plausibility probe suggesting that perspective‐taking affects the process and outcomes of negotiations. Perspective‐taking may thus help negotiators better manage power dynamics, navigate informal rules of engagement, alleviate uncertainty, and bolster global security.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\nThe Russian invasion of Ukraine transitioned from an “existential war” into a “war of attrition.” The study assessed the impact of prolonged conflict on resilience and coping mechanisms through two cross‐sectional assessments conducted with independent samples (Sample 1 – July 2022 [N = 1001]; Sample 2 – November 2023 [N = 2247]). The respondents completed a quantitative questionnaire during the war, which included individual, community, and societal resilience, hope, sense of danger, perceived threats, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A significant decrease in all variables was found between Sample 1 and Sample 2 measurements. Path analysis indicated that government support is the variable most strongly related to societal resilience. Community resilience is the variable most strongly related to individual resilience. Perceived threats are the variable most strongly associated with PTSD symptoms. The above‐mentioned variables explain 68% (Sample 1) and 60% (Sample 2) of societal resilience, 19% (Sample 1 and Sample 2) of individual resilience, and 58% (Sample 1) and 12% (Sample 2) of PTSD symptoms. Findings suggest the “routinization” of an ongoing emergency, allowing the population to coexist with the adversity and accept war as the “new normalcy.” Nonetheless, the future remains uncertain, leading to a decline in hope. Strategies that bolster individual and societal resilience during adversities should include social support mechanisms that enhance the population's hope and morale and build the government's trust and support."]

", "\nABSTRACT\nWhile substantial efforts have been made to learn more about youth community violence exposure (CVE) and its wide‐ranging impact, less is known about the effects of different types of CVE on mental health outcomes, particularly internalizing behavior, across contextual factors. The current study examines types of CVE (i.e., hearing/learning about, witnessing, and victimization) across gender, age, socioeconomic status (SES), and racial and ethnic group (White, African American/Black, and Latinx) in a diverse sample of youth seeking treatment at a university‐based pediatric anxiety clinic. Older age (adolescence), male gender, and lower SES were associated with increased rates of CVE. Victimization was positively and significantly correlated with hearing reports of violence against familiars but negatively associated with hearing reports of violence against strangers, suggesting that youth who are victimized often have family or close friends who are also victims of violence, and those who hear about violence against strangers may be safe from victimization in some regards. Results from this study suggest that Black youth, in comparison to White youth, may experience more internalizing symptoms as the result of indirect CVE. For those who witnessed violence against people they know, Latinx youth reported lower levels of anxiety compared to both Black and White youth. In light of these results, potential risk and protective factors associated with CVE and presenting symptoms are discussed.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\nThe cultural politics of the ‘problematic’ ageing body have led to a search for solutions in the form of algorithmic technologies. In this article, we look at one problem associated with the ageing body—unintentional falls—and one proposed algorithmic intervention: wearable fall‐detection technology. In dialogue with sociologists concerned with the cultural politics of the older body, we aim to understand what contribution this fledgling technology makes to how the older body is ‘constituted’. To do this, we examine a sample of datasets containing measurements of individuals' movements and falls (which researchers have made available to train algorithms for use in fall‐detection wearables). In contrast to existing attempts to grasp how older users are scripted into technology, which focus on explicit ideas about them, we trace how individual subjects are formatted in these datasets. We find that these individuals become fragmented in the data, rendered into movements abstracted from the bodies that carry them out and the locations in which they take place. The older body is constituted, then, as a risky, deviant set of movements through space, irreducible to its component parts.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\nAlthough family reintegration of street‐connected youth has become the main objective of many governmental and civil society organizations, achieving this remains a complex task. This article explores what contributes to successful and sustainable change in work with street‐connected young people and their families based on descriptions provided by the youth and family members themselves and the professionals who work with them. The study draws on ethnographic data created in two civil society organizations and one governmental institution in urban Northeast Brazil. The results illustrate the desired change: weakening young people's connection to the street and its related lifestyle and strengthening their family and community ties and, as a result, achieving family reintegration. In addition, they discuss work approaches that can successfully and sustainably contribute to this change: relationship‐building, awareness‐raising and enhancing strengths. The article argues that these approaches are fundamentally rights‐based and can offer successful and sustainable change in these young people's situations and those of their families by valuing them as subjects of rights instead of stigmatizing or victimizing them. It further argues that such approaches should, therefore, be acknowledged in both practice and policy within a relational perspective that involves both young people and their families.\n"]

["Child &Family Social Work, EarlyView. ", "\nABSTRACT\nParental overprotection—marked by excessive control and restricted autonomy—can hinder adolescents' emotional growth and social competence. This study examined how psychological resilience and bullying victimization explain the link between overprotective parenting and adolescent mental health in a clinical sample. Data were collected from 219 adolescents and young adults (aged 12–25 years) attending a psychiatric outpatient clinic in China, using self‐report measures of parental overprotection, resilience, bullying victimization, psychotic‐like experiences (PLEs), depression, and anxiety. Parental overprotection was positively associated with PLEs, depressive symptoms, and anxiety symptoms, and sequential mediation analyses showed that all three indirect pathways were significant across outcomes: via lower resilience, via higher bullying victimization, and through the sequential pathway from lower resilience to greater bullying victimization. As direct effects remained significant across all three models, the associations were only partially mediated. Together, these findings suggest that overprotective parenting may heighten adolescents' mental‐health risks by weakening resilience and increasing peer stress, and they support coordinated family‐, school‐, and service‐based responses for help‐seeking adolescents exposed to overprotective parenting and peer stress.\n"]

", "\nAbstract\nThis article adopts a political ethnographic approach to follow narrative practices enacted by diplomats and bureaucrats during the trilogue negotiations of the European Union's (EU) Artificial Intelligence Act where inter‐institutional dynamics were at stake. I argue that when diplomats and bureaucrats negotiate AI, they also negotiate their desired position in a struggle over status in EU's diplomatic structures while constructing competing identities of the EU. The narrative analysis shows that three narrative positions endure, ethical and moral; national and economic; supranational and global, which interact through negotiation practices of brokerage and improvisation (re)negotiating social positions and (re)constructing three faces of a European AI identity. These narratives are not performed by a specific diplomat or bureaucrat but remain transversal, competing within and across national, ideological and institutional boundaries. The competing meanings are comprised into the AI Act constituting AI, its governance structure and the EU with ambiguous meanings."]

", "\nABSTRACT\nConsidering the enactment of a pro‐creditor bankruptcy reform in India as an exogenous policy shock, we investigate its impact on firms' tendency to avoid taxes. Employing the difference‐in‐differences (DiD) methodology, we find that post‐bankruptcy reform, distressed firms significantly reduced their tax avoidance than non‐distressed firms. Our channel analysis shows that increased borrowings, along with higher return on equity (RoE) and sales growth, help distressed firms reduce tax avoidance as opposed to non‐distressed firms during the post‐IBC period. The reduction in tax avoidance is due to improved credit culture after the said reform. Furthermore, our findings remain qualitatively similar under DiD with matching technique and the randomization inference test.\n"]

This study explores the relationship between CESID and financial default risk in Chinese A‐share listed firms from 2009 to 2020, emphasizing the role of internal control quality and institutional investors as key moderating factors. Using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression with firm‐ and year‐fixed effects, alongside robust econometric techniques including lagged variables, propensity score matching (PSM), entropy balancing, and alternative financial distress measures, we ensure the robustness of our findings. Our results show that higher CESID levels significantly reduce financial default risk, particularly in firms with strong internal controls and greater institutional investor presence. These findings align with agency theory, highlighting governance mechanisms that mitigate information asymmetry, and stakeholder theory, demonstrating how transparency fosters trust and reduces financial distress. This study contributes to the sustainability and finance literature by positioning CESID as a strategic tool for financial risk management in emerging markets. The findings provide important guidance for policymakers and business executives, highlighting the importance of robust governance structures, supportive regulatory measures, and greater transparency in strengthening financial stability and promoting long‐term sustainability.\n"]

On the other hand, Russia sustained its maritime activity by navigating sanctions and redirecting exports to Asian markets. The Black Sea Grain Initiative also improved navigation conditions for both countries. ["Mathematical Finance, EarlyView. ", "\nABSTRACT\nWe study axiomatic foundations for different classes of automated market makers (AMMs). Our main results are a characterization of a generalization of constant product market makers (CPMMs), popular in decentralized finance, and a characterization of the Logarithmic Market Scoring Rule AMM, popular in prediction markets. The first class is characterized by the combination of independence and scale invariance, whereas the second is characterized by the combination of independence and translation invariance. The two classes are, therefore, distinguished by a different invariance property that is motivated by different interpretations of the numéraire in the two applications, but pinned down by the same separability property. Moreover, we characterize the CPMM as trader‐optimal among scale invariant, independent, symmetric and sufficiently funded AMMs. Our results add to a formal analysis of mechanisms used in practice and connect the most popular class of decentralized finance (DeFi) AMMs to the most popular class of prediction market AMMs."]

["International Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView. ", "\nABSTRACT\nThis paper examines whether and how corporate online interactions with investors shape trust in annual reports. We focus on annual report comment letters, through which regulators publicly question the credibility of firms' disclosures, providing a suitable setting to observe investor trust. We find that sustained high‐quality interactions significantly mitigate the negative market reaction to comment letters, suggesting that such interactions strengthen investor trust. These results are robust to instrumental variable estimation, the Heckman two‐stage model and additional sensitivity analyses. Mechanism analyses indicate that high‐quality interactions enhance trust primarily by conveying credible signals of lower agency costs. Consistent with a signalling mechanism, high‐quality responses to negative inquiries have stronger effects on investor trust, while short‐term interactions play a limited role. The trust effect is concentrated among firms whose investors rely more on such signals. Further analysis shows that investor trust rapidly collapses when subsequent response letters reveal underlying problems and is reinforced when such problems are absent. Finally, high‐quality interactions are associated with more favourable regulatory recognition. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of high‐quality online communication in strengthening investor trust and offer implications for capital market participants.\n"]

Within the context of the U.S. War on Drugs and after decades of criminalization, buprenorphine represents a shift toward outpatient medical treatment of opioid addiction, but it has been unequally distributed and experienced across geographic settings and populations. Drawing on my interlocutor's description of buprenorphine's “hold,” I interrogate how buprenorphine's symbolic and pharmacological power to embrace, restrain, and otherwise “hold” people arises through its social context. “Holding” is a patient‐driven epistemology, working metaphorically and neurochemically, illustrating raced, classed, and gendered positionalities that simultaneously express and constrain forms of agency and resistance in ideological struggles over the meanings of care in addiction treatment. Buprenorphine's “hold,” or lack thereof, can be read as a neurochemical embodiment of state violence, revealing intensities of carceral forms of “care” and possibilities for transforming addiction treatment meanings.\n"]

["Political Psychology, Volume 47, Issue 4, August 2026. ", "\nAbstract\nHow immigrants respond to discrimination is a well‐studied topic in political psychology. However, less attention has been paid to whether the impact of discrimination on in‐group identification varies within minority groups and why. In Western Europe, Muslims experience significant discrimination and hostility based on their religious identity despite increasing educational integration and upward social mobility. Building on social identity theory and measuring both the strength and relative importance of religious identity, this paper reexamines the discrimination–in‐group identification link and investigates heterogeneity based on educational level. Drawing on an original survey of 1456 Turkish immigrants in Germany and combining a survey experiment and an observational study, this paper finds substantive heterogeneity: Higher educated immigrants strengthen their attachment to their religious group when they perceive discrimination, whereas lower educated immigrants tend to distance themselves from their in‐group. Additionally, while observational analyses support prior research showing that the average association between discrimination and in‐group identification is positive, the priming experiment does not provide evidence for a positive average causal effect. This study makes important empirical and theoretical contributions to research on in‐group religious identification and the integration paradox.\n"]

Drawing on 51 Facebook and YouTube posts and 17,126 associated comments in Kurdish, Arabic and English, the study combines thematic analysis with a critical discourse approach to explore how prehistoric heritage is symbolically appropriated online. The findings show that Shanidar Z was rapidly transformed from a scientific object into a culturally and politically charged symbol articulated through symbolic boundary‐making, deep historical narratives, and affective framings. Although scientific, religious, and state‐centred interpretations were present, nationalist framings were dominant and reinforced through everyday digital practices such as naming, interaction, and visual circulation. The article contributes to research on digital nationalism by demonstrating how deep prehistory can function as a symbolic resource in contemporary identity‐making, particularly in stateless and contested contexts.\n"]

To investigate public preferences regarding the inclusion of rare disease drugs in China's Basic Medical Insurance (BMI) using a multi‐center discrete choice experiment.\n\n\nMethods\nFrom July to September 2024, a face‐to‐face, filed‐based discrete choice experiment (DCE) was conducted across four regions in China. Using non probability sampling technique which is known as Quota sampling, participants evaluated drug profiles varying in six attributes. Mixed logit model and latent class model were used for analysis. Relative importance, willingness to pay (WTP), scenario analysis and preference heterogeneity were estimated.\n\n\nResults\nOf the 761 respondents retained after initial data cleaning, 622 passed the internal consistency check and were included in the final analysis. Most participants were urban residents (62.7%), employed (66.6%), and covered by urban and rural resident basic medical insurance (BMI) (57.7%). The general public preferred including orphan drugs in BMI coverage when treatments provided greater health gains, targeted diseases with moderate untreated life expectancy, and lacked existing reimbursed alternatives. In contrast, poorer untreated quality of life and larger increases in BMI financing reduced utility. Health gains were the most important, followed by increases in BMI financing, untreated quality of life, existing BMI coverage, and untreated life expectancy. Annual WTP was ¥1.225 per capita for quality‐adjusted life years (QALY) gains (0.01–4), with lower WTP observed among respondents facing poorer untreated quality of life. Scenario analysis showed that 78.5% would support reimbursement for drugs providing maximal health gains (0.01–4). Preference heterogeneity was observed across age, sex, education, household income, insurance type, and urban–rural residence. Latent class analysis identified two subgroups. The “life‐saving group” (23%) showed strong preferences for greater disease severity and larger health gains, whereas the “pragmatist group” (77%) demonstrated relatively flatter preferences and negative utility associated with declining untreated life expectancy.\n\n\nConclusion\nWhile health gains drive preferences, the public also values equity, disease severity and affordability. Policymakers must integrate these multidimensional social values to ensure legitimacy and fairness in allocating finite resources for rare diseases.\n\n\nPatient or Public Contribution\nMembers of the public were involved in the development of the DCE. In response to this requirement, this paper first asks how a critical bioethics of space can move beyond a basic four‐principles approach. Having set this initial framework, we arrive at the observation that in political and bioethical discourse a common tendency exists to explain away space activity as ‘inevitable’. This trope requires (bio)ethical attention since portraying human engagement with outer space as a ‘fixed reality’ aligns with dominant political narratives that legitimize control over territory. After this, we outline three additional (value‐laden) lines of reasoning that further reinforce this ideological work as they sustain unwarranted beliefs about what is considered a speculative future and what is not. We then explore the overarching notion of futurity and its impact on bioethical engagement with space exploration. A closer look at such speculative futurism reveals whose ‘humanity’ is being centered and who is envisioned as a part of this future. This paper fits within an understanding of critical feminist and naturalized bioethics that not only brings the arguments used in a bioethical discussion into harsh light but also the boundaries that make this discussion possible in the first place. ", "\nABSTRACT\nIn this paper, I argue that negative genetic selection should play a significant role in space exploration and colonization, at least until therapeutic gene editing and repair technologies are cheap and effective enough to enable modification of embryos that would otherwise be selected against and discarded. I present two key reasons supporting this claim. First, there are many traits prospective parents have strong reasons to select against in the Earth context despite the lack of the significant environmental pressures present in space, and these reasons are likely to persist in the context of space exploration and colonization. Second, both in general and in the high‐stakes context of space exploration and colonization, negative selection is likely to be desirable to implement. With regard to the latter context, this is because negative selection can help increase the chances of astronaut survival, mission success, and thriving space colonies by ensuring that astronauts do not have certain traits that would negatively impact those chances. For all these reasons, space bioethicists should avoid prematurely ruling out negative selection as a useful and desirable tool for ensuring that future space exploration and colonization missions have maximally effective and healthy crews.\n"]

Despite its significance, there has been surprisingly little discussion in practice about conceptual approaches and the nature of harm in medical ethics analyses. We examine how different conceptual accounts of harm shape ethical decision making through examples from clinical ethics consultation and data‐intensive medical innovations. By applying three prevailing theoretical‐philosophical frameworks—the counterfactual, temporal, and non‐comparative accounts of harm—to these cases, we demonstrate that explicitly identifying and discussing stakeholders' varying concepts of harm is crucial for ethical analyses in medicine and healthcare. While harm is only one of many considerations influencing medical ethics decision‐making, our analysis reveals that different conceptualisations of harm can lead to substantively different practical outcomes. In this way, how we understand harm can affect recommendation processes, stakeholder communication, and assessments of quality of life and best interests. Without making different types of harm explicit, stakeholders might talk past each other when weighing harm against benefit, as what constitutes harm in one case may not be considered harm in another. We argue that explicit consideration of the nature of harm ensures comprehensive ethical deliberation, and integrates multiple perspectives in healthcare settings. Our findings suggest that the ethical importance of conceptual analysis of harm extends beyond mere theoretical interest, with direct implications for clinical practice and ethical decision making in healthcare."]

We compared victimization rates and socioecological support levels (i.e., parental monitoring, perceived social support, food and housing security) and associations between socioecological support and victimization, accounting for between‐school differences. We included two‐way interactions between gender and socioecological supports.\n\nResults\nTGDA reported more frequent multi‐victimization and lower socioecological support than cisgender adolescents. Across all groups, greater socioecological support was associated with experiencing fewer victimization types. Food security was more protective for cisgender girls than cisgender boys.\n\nImplications for School Health Policy, Practice, and Equity\nEnhancing socioecological support may reduce multi‐victimization for all youth, with TGDA having the greatest need. Schools' advocacy and innovative efforts to bolster socioecological support are critical to TGDA wellbeing.\n\nConclusions\nModifiable socioecological supports may reduce adolescent multi‐victimization. By focusing on how these screenings are practiced in Indonesian clinics, I argue that migrant tuberculosis screenings in the Indonesia–Malaysia migration corridor enact a distinct form of tuberculosis, co‐determined by its relation to border control—what I call border tuberculosis. The notion of border tuberculosis draws attention to how biomedical practices and standards are adjusted in ways that lend themselves to the selective and productive function of the border. The challenges of space living, such as extreme environmental conditions and limited resources, raise critical questions about the practicality and morality of reproduction in these contexts. This paper argues that in extraterrestrial space, human reproduction based on assisted reproductive technologies is morally preferable to sexual reproduction. We explore the benefits of technologies like embryo selection, genome editing, and artificial wombs, emphasizing their potential to mitigate the risks posed by space environments. There is no doubt that the idea of human reproduction based solely on technology is controversial and counterintuitive, even if it were to be applied only, at least initially, for the continued existence of the human population settled in space. Nevertheless, there are strong rationales for the fact that non‐sexual reproduction is not only beneficial, but also has moral advantages. Finally, we also examine the social and political implications of a society that moves beyond sexual reproduction, including the reduction of gendered oppression and the redefinition of family structures. We suggest that these advancements could transform reproduction not only in space but also on Earth, potentially reducing injustices caused by human biology and reshaping societal norms and traditional view on family.\n"]

Approved by the U.S. FDA in 2022 for adolescents aged 12 and older, it has since been authorized in several other countries. Despite this, its use among youth remains limited, with ongoing concerns about its long‐term safety, efficacy, and suitability during periods of growth and development. Advocates see Wegovy as an important tool for addressing pediatric obesity and its psychological burdens, while critics caution against widespread use in such a vulnerable population. This paper examines an underexplored ethical dimension of Wegovy's use in children: its impact on mental health. We argue that Wegovy may offer mental health benefits for children—such as reducing weight stigma, improving self‐esteem, and avoiding invasive interventions such as bariatric surgery. However, these potential benefits are constrained by barriers to access, supply shortages, risks of misuse, and the possibility of reinforcing stigma and class‐based discrimination. In light of these considerations, we argue that while Wegovy offers promising health benefits for children, its long‐term effects on growth, development, and mental health remain uncertain, warranting further study before definitive policy decisions are made. If future evidence confirms its value, it is our view that access should be equitable and accompanied by reforms to reduce stigma, regulate prescribing, and prevent misuse. Until then, clinicians should prescribe cautiously, ensuring clear medical need and implementing safeguards against risks such as weight regain, treatment interruption, and bias in care.\n"]

We argue that: (1) informed consent for space exploration research should be required, but exceptions can be justified for research involving public records, de‐identified medical records, secondary use of de‐identified, biospecimens or data, emergency medical research, and research critical to mission success or crew safety; (2) organizations that conduct space exploration research should take steps to minimize the potential for undue influence by, for example, ensuring that informed consent discussions will be private and that information about research participation will be kept confidential; (3) prospective spaceflight participants should be provided with information about research activities or other types of data and specimen collection (such as quality assurance) that will take place; and (4) since existing laws and regulations do not apply to most of the research activities conducted by private companies, space companies should give serious thought to developing guidelines for the protection of human research participants.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\nDebates in public health ethics have been dominated by the assumptions of Western liberalism: a priority given to liberty and autonomy over other values, an individualistic view of social ontology, a focus on personal responsibility, a minimal set of obligations (only created through consent), and a marginalization of social, cultural, and religious context. Examining issues in public health ethics from the perspective of a different moral tradition reveals that such assumptions are not timeless truths, but rather choices that require justification. In this paper, we briefly outline a view of Confucianism and explore how this approach can be used to articulate a critical approach to much contemporary public health ethics. Confucianism suggests a radically different perspective toward obligations, agency, and responsibility, as well as a more relational conception of social ontology and a shared notion of well‐being. Of course, some discussion in public health ethics, within the constraints of Western traditions, has pushed in this direction before. In offering a Confucian perspective on public health ethics, we are not suggesting that Confucianism is the one true approach to ethics and that everyone should become a Confucian. We are, however, seeing our discussion as a source of epistemic critique of Western liberalism, exposing the need for more active defense of assumptions at its core, as well as providing an opportunity to broaden the set of values that inform justifiable public health policy.\n"]

", "\nABSTRACT\nThis paper explores the perspectives of mental health and substance use providers who supported people released from custody during the pandemic in Ontario, Canada, with a focus on service disruptions, adaptations, and experiences. We conducted 20 in‐depth qualitative interviews and analysed these using Applied Thematic Analysis. Pandemic public health responses limited the ability of providers to support people released from custody. Policies designed to mitigate viral spread were not tailored to the mental health and substance use context, leading to disruptions in service delivery. This had domino effects for service users and providers. Criminal‐legal‐involved populations had to isolate and at the same time providers could not reach out to them, leading to increased risks for substance use, overdose, and suicide. Providers in turn felt pressure to help people released from custody, when policy made it exceedingly difficult for them to do so. Still, providers did find silver linings through opportunities to work together and provide better person‐centred care. For future pandemic preparedness, decision‐makers must consider the unintentional fallout that blanket policies can have on underserved communities and mitigate against unintended consequences. Future research should engage underserved communities to understand their needs during emergencies.\n"]

However, the literature has predominantly explored parental influence in relation to mothers' and daughters' self‐objectification. This study extends understanding of parental influence to daughters' and sons' objectification of others.\n\n\nMethod\nUsing convenience sampling (N = 138), young adults were recruited to complete a survey including measures of self‐objectification, objectification of women and men, parental care, and perceived parental objectification.\n\n\nResults\nPerceived maternal objectification of women predicted daughters', but not sons', objectification of women whereas perceived paternal objectification was not a significant predictor. At high levels of maternal care, low perceived maternal objectification of women protected against daughters' self‐objectification. Perceived paternal objectification of women predicted daughters' self‐objectification independent of paternal care.\n\n\nConclusion\nOur findings fill a gap in the literature as they suggest that perceived parental objectification of women may impact daughters' self‐objectification and objectification of other women. We discuss the need for future research to examine causal relationships and influences on sons' experiences of objectification.\n\n\nImplications\nThis research suggests that not only mothers' own self‐objectification impacts upon daughters' self‐objectification, but more broadly parental commentary on other women may be internalized by daughters. To address this, we developed FinSoc, a financial social work intervention designed to improve financial literacy, strengthen economic self‐efficacy and reduce financial anxiety among parents in Finland. This pilot randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary effectiveness of the intervention. Altogether, 30 social work clients participated in the study and were randomly assigned to either the intervention or a waitlist control group. Data were collected at three time points: before the intervention, immediately after and at a 3‐month follow‐up. Additionally, qualitative interviews were conducted with both participants and professionals implementing the intervention. Of the 55 individuals assessed for eligibility, 30 enrolled in the study (54.5%), and 80% completed the 3‐month follow‐up. Acceptability was high: 13 of the 14 clients (92.9%) who completed all sessions rated the intervention as useful, and professionals viewed it as beneficial in supporting clients' financial capabilities. Although the group × time interactions for financial literacy, financial anxiety and economic self‐efficacy did not reach statistical significance, the findings may nevertheless suggest some potential for effectiveness. Using structural equation modelling (SEM), this study analysed data from 612 junior high school students (47.1% male, M age = 12.90 ± 0.75 years) who completed self‐report questionnaires. Additionally, network analysis was conducted to investigate interrelationships between neuroticism and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies at the item level. Results showed that witnessing domestic violence was positively associated with test anxiety, and neuroticism and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies sequentially mediated this relationship. Network analysis further revealed that ‘worthlessness’ and ‘self‐blame’ served as central bridge nodes linking the two constructs. This study identified a serial mediated mechanism connecting witnessing domestic violence to adolescent test anxiety via neuroticism and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies, highlighting the importance of attending to family functioning and emotion regulation in preventive interventions.\n"]

However, despite a harmonized EU framework, member states differ substantially in how they implement EU directives on farm animal welfare. Building on the concept of differentiated policy implementation (DPI), we examine how institutional fit, domestic politics and problem pressure shape national implementation patterns in three EU member states with large animal production: Denmark, France and Spain. Our findings reveal that whilst economic imperatives create tensions across all cases, national policy‐making styles and actor constellations drive divergent outcomes. We argue that the relevance of DPI factors is shaped in part by the characteristics of the policy subsystem, particularly its political salience and economic salience. Moreover, our article advances the understanding of how national contexts influence EU implementation in an understudied policy domain and provides practical insights for current challenges and potentials in animal welfare policy‐making."]

["Studies in Family Planning, EarlyView. ", "\nAbstract\nWomen living with HIV(WLHIV) have diverse and complex reproductive health needs that require patient‐centered, informed decision‐making. Digital tools to support reproductive life planning may improve reproductive health counseling and outcomes for these women. We evaluated user experiences with a self‐administered, tablet‐based family planning (FP) counseling tool as part of a digital health intervention implemented within a cluster randomized trial in Kenya. We conducted 10 focus group discussions with WLHIV (n = 95) who received the counseling tool and in‐depth interviews (n = 10) with providers. Data were collected using semistructured guides, transcribed, translated, and thematically analyzed. Women's median age was 26 years, and 52 percent were married. Providers had a median of seven years’ experience. WLHIV and providers found the counseling tool acceptable and felt it improved decision‐making, FP knowledge, and patient–provider interactions. Women reported that the counseling tool supported informed FP decisions, improved awareness about less familiar options, and dispelled myths and misconceptions. Providers said the counseling tool helped tailor counseling, though it was challenging to use with women with more FP experience or with a selected method, but helpful among new FP users and adolescents. Participants also felt that the tool was lengthy. Tailoring the counseling tool and making it optional for specific groups of WLHIV may improve feasibility.\n"]
